The Tee Height Trick You’ve Been Missing

Hey everybody, Martin Chuck here from the Raven Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona, the home of my Tour Striker Golf Academy, and I've got the Teeless Driver 13° high launch.

This is a fantastic club. You can use it off a tee, or you can use it off the turf.

Let me show you how to use it off a tee. Watch the video guide or follow along with the transcription below to get started.

The beautiful thing about this club is that it gives people a lot of confidence. I don't have to tee this up very high. This ball is pretty close to the grass. It's up maybe a little bit above the crown of the driver.

When the ball is teed up really high, you know like they say in the magazines, “Tee it high and let it fly”.

But for a lot of regular golfers up there, I tell you what, when you got that ball teed up, you lose your confidence because you feel like you can go under it. Believe me, I see the golfers come to my golf school every week.

So the way this is designed, you can tee the ball a half inch, three quarters of an inch off the ground, which is perfect for the Teeless Driver.

Now we're going to play this a little bit forward in our stance, so a little bit left of center. My stance width is just a little wider than my hips.

From there, take a look at this; Let me show you a little trick from Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. What do you notice about that club right now? It's really not resting on the ground.

I've got a nice measure from my body, down both arms to the grip obviously, down to the club head. I've got this measure, I can tap the grass, not resting it, and then from there, we can go ahead and send it.

Enjoy that strike, another fairway finder. In fact, you know the joke about this, is people are calling it “The Ultimate Fairway Finder” because in all honesty, I hit that off the heel. But that ball did start a little bit left, curved back in play; just another fairway hit.

FAQs

How does tee height affect the trajectory of my tee shots?

Tee height plays a pivotal role in determining the trajectory of your tee shots. When you tee the ball lower, you tend to achieve a flatter and more controlled trajectory. This can be especially advantageous in windy conditions or when you need greater accuracy. Conversely, teeing the ball higher promotes a higher launch angle, which can be useful for maximizing distance but may require more control to avoid unintended side spin. So, the tee height you choose can influence whether your shot flies lower and straighter or higher with more carry.

Does tee height impact my ability to hit consistently off the tee?

Tee height has a significant impact on the consistency of your tee shots. Consistency in golf is often linked to how consistently you strike the ball. When you find the right tee height for your swing and the club you're using, you're more likely to make solid contact. Teeing the ball too low or too high can lead to inconsistent contact, affecting both distance and accuracy. So, getting the tee height dialed in for your swing can improve your ability to hit the ball consistently and with confidence.

Are there any specific situations or course conditions where adjusting tee height becomes crucial?

Absolutely, adjusting tee height becomes crucial in various situations and course conditions. Here are a few scenarios where tee height adjustments are essential: • Windy Conditions: On a windy day, teeing the ball lower can help reduce the impact of the wind on your shot, making it more predictable. • Narrow Fairways: When playing on courses with narrow fairways, a lower tee height can enhance accuracy and reduce the chance of your ball veering off course. • Dogleg Holes: On holes with sharp doglegs, teeing the ball lower can help you control the trajectory and curve of your shot, allowing you to navigate the fairway more effectively. • Firm Ground: If the ground is firm and dry, a lower tee height can prevent the tee from bouncing upon impact, ensuring clean contact. • Par-3 Holes: On par-3 holes, where precision is paramount, tee height becomes critical to control the ball's flight and distance. • Hazards: Adjusting tee height can help you avoid hazards like bunkers or water by altering the trajectory and carry distance of your shot. In these situations, having the knowledge and ability to adjust your tee height can give you a strategic advantage on the golf course.
