What is a Divot in Golf?

A divot in golf is a mark made in the grass on golf courses that are caused by previous golfers' swings.

A Word on Golf Divots

Now look what I’ve got here; I’ve got a ball in a divot. Now, when people come to the golf school, I usually tell them, “Be conservative, take something with loft, an 8-iron or a 7-iron, and let’s go ahead and chop that ball outta there and get it back, play and plan from there.”

Basically, lick your wounds and move on.

But - I believe in this club so much, so here’s a simple way to get this ball onto the green or way farther down the fairway.

Hitting a golf shot from a divot using a hybrid

How to Hit a Golf Shot from a Divot

When the ball’s sitting in a hole like this, you have to have a little bit more of a descending strike onto the golf ball, just a tick more attack angle down onto the ball.

Don't be afraid to hit down on it a little bit more when the ball’s in this poor lie. When you hit down on it, the way this leading edge is designed, it’s got a little bit of ski right there that kind of keeps the club from digging - that’s why you need to hit down a bit.

The CG (center of gravity) is back, it’s low, it’s going to pop the ball straight up into the air.

So I’m going to play the ball just a little bit farther back in my stance, more toward the middle with this club. Normally I’d play a hybrid a little bit more forward, and I’m going to go ahead and enjoy hitting down on this one, expecting a little bit of a divot.

You can see the exchange with the club involved, that little poof of a divot, and that shot was as straight as I can point. So enjoy hitting your HyLaunch Hybrid, the performance is spectacular.
